The Dog Farm is up for sale for only the second time in over one-hundred years. It is one of the few true waterfront estates on Puget Sound that you don't need a ferry or a plane to get to. From Seattle to the front door is usually less than an hour and a half drive. It was originally a logging camp and at one time a duck hunting camp. If you wander the property enough you will sooner or later find evidence of both. The property is more or less 9 acres with 225 feet of bulkhead waterfront with forest on the upper acreage. There are eight buildings on the property, nine if you include the chicken coop. The main house and connected guest house were built in the late 80's as was the barn. Four other buildings....one with an apartment above it, one freestanding cabin in the woods, the third, the small original beach house and the fourth, another small beach house (now behind the barn), are over 100 years old. There is a mooring buoy where even large boats can moor. There is also a boat sling and a small boathouse. The waterfront view looking out the windows in the living room looks directly across Port Susan to the Cascades and Mt. Baker. The property also surrounds a fenced tennis court that is used by five other families. The property is lush with both flower and vegetable gardens and also has ten fruit trees and berries. By the end of June through November the Dog Farm is self sufficient at least for veggies, greens, flowers, fruit and chicken eggs. The Dungeness crabbing one hundred feet off the bulkhead is fantastic and the pink salmon fishing in odd numbered years is often terrific as well. If you are a beach walker, you have five miles of wonderful beach in each direction to roam. Most of that is undeveloped. Birds and wildlife abound: eagles (which we feed), pileated wood peckers, kingfishers and an assortment of sea ducks are daily visitors. Grey whales, otters, seals, sea lions and porpoises visit often. There are two sources of water. One from a well, owned by the Dog Farm, on the upper part of the property and the other from one of the two neighborhood associations the Dog Farm belongs to. Both produce terrific and copious amounts of water. The barn is special. It is post and beam construction with an epoxy-sealed floor and new metal roof and currently houses the current owner's very large wood shop. The upper story has been used for everything from a kids playhouse, to an art studio, to a storage place. The Dog Farm is made to entertain. It sleeps 20 in the three beach buildings, has a gourmet kitchen in the main house and a second kitchen in the connected guest house. And of course a hot tub. It has seen weddings for 200 and sit-down dinners for 50. It screams to have people enjoying themselves. It is a special place looking for its next extended family to enjoy.
